Flying success

SHETLAND MSP Tavish Scott has welcomed the outcome of the independent survey into the Air Discount Scheme (ADS), a scheme he introduced when Transport Minister. The survey shows that the scheme has been a resounding success.

Mr Scott said: “I know from the regular feedback I get from constituents that the ADS is appreciated but it is always good to see the statistics. With over 90 per cent of Shetland residents registered for the scheme, clearly its benefits are being enjoyed across the islands. I am pleased too to see that a third of the passengers on flights in and out of Sumburgh are benefiting from the 40 per cent discount in fares. With the cost of living rising, and air fares under pressure from rising oil prices, this discount is going to grow in its importance to Shetland. “The scheme is also of vital importance to the airlines. They need passengers to fill their flights, otherwise they either have to cut services or raise their fares. Passenger numbers have risen since the ADS was introduced – that is good news for the airlines and for their passengers.”
