Women pool players crowned IBA champions
AT THE second IBA pool tournament in Rosyth, Shetland, Isle of Man, Gibraltar and Orkney competed in a round robin competition.
Eight men’s teams and six women’s teams vied against each other for the right to call themselves Champions of the Smaller Isles.
The two Shetland men’s teams lost out in the semi-finals, finishing third and fourth. The Isle of Man A team won for the second year in a row.
The women’s A team fared much better: after beating the B team in the semi-final, they went on to beat Gibraltar in the final. So for the second year running the Shetland Ladies A team were undefeated throughout the competition and crowned IBA champions.
Amanda Cutt had an outstanding competition, but unluckily did not manage to hold on to the trophy for most frames which she won in 2007. This year Sarah Jackson won with 15 out of 17.
In the men’s singles Andrew Stout and Martin Ramsay reached the final. Martin quickly went 4-0 up but Andrew gathered himself together and in the end won 5-4.
The most winning frames for the men’s teams was won by James Ramsay with a score of 18 out of 21.
