NAFC director starts work
NEW director of the NAFC Marine Centre David Gray started work on Monday and is looking forward to leading the team forward in what he classes as his dream job.
Explaining what attracted him to the position, Prof Gray said: “It marries my chosen discipline of marine biology with the academic leadership skills I’ve developed in my career to date.
“But, more than this, I recognise the fact that the Shetland economy is largely based around the sea and maritime industries and I can see the critical role that the NAFC Marine Centre plays in managing this resource, as well as contributing to the sustainability of that economy and, ultimately, helping it to grow further.
“The NAFC Marine Centre is home to state-of-the-art resources including skilled staff and quality facilities. It continues to shine in providing specialist training and education, research and advice for the marine and fishing industries.”
He said Shetland should be proud centre and described it as an institution at the forefront of marine research, management and training. “I look forward to assisting my team to build on these successes and, in doing so, support the people of Shetland.”
