Protest over hospital parking spaces
Lerwick Community Council is protesting to NHS Shetland over the lack of available parking spaces for patients at the Gilbert Bain Hospital.
Members are concerned that patients attending appointments cannot find a space in the car park after 9.30am because hospital workers are parking there rather than in designated staff bays at Brevik House.
Only 23 of the 75 spaces at Gilbert Bain are marked for patients, with nine disabled bays and 43 unmarked spaces, while there are a further 76 spaces at the nearby Brevik House and 65 at the health centre.
Community councillors, some of whom have received complaints from constituents on the matter, agreed they were not satisfied with the health board’s response to an earlier inquiry and will now write to NHS Shetland chief executive Sandra Laurenson asking her to instruct hospital staff to park at Brevik House.
