Young mechanic named college’s best
Train Shetland apprentice Vincent Tonner has been named as Inverness College’s motor vehicle apprentice of the year.
The SVQ Level 3 apprentice from Yell was presented with his award, along with a toolbox worth £250 provided by Macgregor’s Industrial Supplies, at a recent ceremony at the college’s Longman campus.
Mr Tonner, 22, who is employed by R&M Nicolson in Bixter, said: “I was really pleased to be named as motor vehicle apprentice of the year. Receiving the toolbox was great and it will definitely come in handy.
“Since I was a little boy I always wanted to be a mechanic. I’ve now almost completed my mechanic apprenticeship and I’ve enjoyed every part of it.”
Train Shetland helped him travel to Inverness College for one week every month.
Jan Mahon, head of the Science, Engineering and Technology department at Inverness College, said: “Vincent is a great example of a hard working student whose commitment and dedication has been rewarded. We wish him the best of luck for the future.”
