Hunt for ports

The organisers of the Tall Ships Races are looking for local areas which may be interested in becoming a guest port when Shetland plays host to the event in 2011.

The Cruise in Company is a non-competitive leg of the races and will give ships the opportunity to explore the area between Greenock and Lerwick before their arrival here on 21st July.

Shetland Tall Ships project manager Fiona Dally said she was encouraged by a meeting at the weekend with representatives of the Shetland Marinas, Piers and Boating Club Association.

She urged representatives of the association who had not been able to make the meeting to get in touch with her if their area was interested in being considered as a guest port.
