Double blow as rugby teams slump to defeat
A young Shetland team took on Mackie/Portlethen Academy in a North Schools Cup game at Stonehaven recently.
The game was played en route to Edinburgh where the party enjoyed the Six Nations game between Scotland and Ireland.
Unfortunately the youngsters went down by a 43-7 scoreline, Danny Farnworth scoring a try which was converted by Callum Williamson.
Coach Paul Woods said the score did not reflect a lot of good play from Shetland.
Although not getting much ball in attack the backs tackled like fury and prevented a much higher score.
It was only the boys’ second game of the season, Woods said, and the lack of regular match practice certainly told.
Meanwhile the Shetland senior rugby team were defeated by Aberdeen Wanderers in Saturday’s match at Clickimin.
In a similar story to their younger counterparts, Lewis King scored the only try in a match which finished 23-7.
