Play based on Carter story
Company Chordelia presents Les Amoureux (The Lovers) at the Garrison Theatre in Lerwick on Wednesday.
Choreographed and directed by Kally Lloyd-Jones with co-director Linda Duncan McLaughlin, the cast includes Kally Lloyd-Jones, Damian Thantrey, Amelia Cardwell and Freya Jeffs.
The new production is based around Angela Carter’s story The Lady of The House of Love, which has inspired the idea of creating a visceral, theatrical equivalent to Carter’s imagery.
This is a story of love, life and death, a twisted sleeping beauty with the faded opulent feel of a gothic fantasy and a strong eastern European quality. Combining dance and physical theatre with opera, voice and design, Les Amoureux is a sensual tale of purity and damage. It creates a world where time stops and never ends, expressed through physical grace, explosive, characterful movement, whispers, discord, and beautiful, soaring singing.
Tickets for the play, which begins at 7.30pm, cost £8/£6 concessions and can be purchased by calling Shetland Arts on (01505) 745555.
