Skipper airlifted from Banff boat
The Sumburgh-based helicopter Rescue 102 was called out to a Banff-registered fishing boat on Tuesday to take the injured skipper to hospital.
The Sunlight Ray was fishing 150 miles north east of Aberdeen when the call was made to Aberdeen Coastguard. Initially the Bond helicopter based on the Miller field was sent to airlift the casualty, but due to the boat’s superstructure was unable to winch the man to safety.
The next nearest helicopter was Rescue 102, which managed to perform the manoeuvre and took the skipper to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, arriving around 4pm.
