Flag day date announced as competition is launched
This year’s annual Shetland Flag Day is to be held on Sunday 21st June during the Johnsmas Foy.
The Foy itself will run from Thursday 18th to Sunday 28th June and this year will be themed around Shetland’s Viking heritage.
In recognition of Shetland Flag Day everyone will once again be encouraged to fly the Shetland flag across the county from as many suitable vantage points as possible, including buildings, vehicles, boats and flag poles.
This year the Johnsmas Foy committee intend to hold a photo competition to find the most interesting or unusual locations you have either flown the Shetland flag yourself or have seen it flown or displayed in some fashion.
The best photographs will then be displayed on the Johnsmas Foy website and the festival committee will ultimately decide on the winning entries.
Winners will be chosen from a range of age groups, but anyone of any age can submit entries to the competition. Entries will be especially welcome from schools, school pupils, nurseries or youth groups.
Full details of the competition, competition rules and associated prizes can shortly be viewed at www.johnsmasfoy.com.
But in the meantime please send any photos you think fit the bill to the Johnsmas Foy co-ordinators Davie Gardner, [email protected] or Nicola Halcrow at [email protected].
Alternatively printed copies or CDs can be dropped in to Nicola at the SIC’s economic development unit at the Solarhus building, North Ness, Lerwick.
Emailed photos should be in jpeg or similar format and be of reasonably high resolution or quality.
Photos should be submitted along with your name, age, address, telephone number (landline and mobile) and your email address if applicable.
