Dobson sees off Swift in final frame to claim Shetland Open title

Sunday saw the finals of the Shetland Open at the Norscot Social Club. In the quarter finals Sean Watt beat George Fraser 6-4, Stephen Dobson won 6-4 against Davie Sandison, Adam Swift had a triumphant 6-1 win over Colin Irvine and 6-1 was also the result between Kenny Henry and Martin Ramsay, taking Kenny through.

In the semis between Sean and Stephen, Stephen promptly took the first four frames with confidence but Sean dug in and won the next two. It went on to finish 6-3 to Stephen.

In the other semi final between Kenny Henry and Adam Swift it began as a very tight match drawing 2-2 after four frames, however Adam took a 5-2 lead proving him to be playing very well and he went on to take the match 6-2 after potting an awkward last black ball.

In the final between Stephen and Adam it was 2-1 to Stephen when Adam played a combination shot on the black to take it to 2-2. At 3-2 to Adam, in the sixth Stephen missed a crucial black and Adam took the frame taking him to a 4-2 lead. Stephen didn’t lose heart though and played well to claw it back to 4-4. In the ninth after Stephen cleared his yellows he missed the black and Adam went to clear the table, taking the frame and needing only one more for the match. The next was quite scrappy with both players missing shots, but Stephen eventually won it taking the match to the final frame at 5-5.

They both had a tricky last frame having to work hard to open the table. Adam has a chance to take the match but rattled his last red and Stephen went on to take the frame and the match. A spokesperson would like to thank the Norscot Social Club.
