Whalsay golfing winners
Winners of the Thursday nine-hole stablefords for Whalsay women golfers in April were Mary Stewart, Cathy Shearer, Loraine Anderson and Ruby Irvine.
The April monthly medal winners for the silver division were Angelina Jamieson (net 73) and Loraine Anderson (net 74) and in the bronze division Mary Stewart (net 73) and Joanne Stewart (net 74).
The Joe Lovie Texas Scramble and Altaire Trophy competition was played on a fine day with some welcome new players and visitors making 16 teams.
The Texas scramble winners were Caroline Arthur, Gary Sandison and Stuart Shearer (net 60) on countback from Mary Stewart, Wilbert Shearer and Tammy Stewart. Third were Joanne Stewart, Joe Huntley and Scott Reid (net 61).
The clear winners of the Altaire Trophy for best gross score were Rosie Sandison, Mark Jamieson and Graeme Sandison with 65. Second were Louise Anderson, Neil Anderson and Stromness visitor Dougie Slater with 67, followed by Rosaine Sandison, Steven Anderson and John Philip Sandison with 68.
On a typically windy day Whalsay won back the WAG Cup 5-0. Rosie Sandison and Mary Stewart played Mandy Henderson and Amy Miller; Rosaine Sandison and Linda Sandison played Janice Johnson and Yvonne Smith; Angelina Jamieson and Joanne Stewart played June Wishart and May Gair; Loraine Anderson and Ruby Irvine played Audrey Thompson and Morag Mouat; and Margie Pearson and Cathy Shearer played Heather Hogg and Wilma Hutchison who stood in for Ruby Smith at the last minute.
