Young swimmers do well on mainland

Local swimming teams brought home plenty of metal from the recent Inverness graded meet, not to mention some new personal bests. A brief summary from each club follows.

Delting Dolphins

Shannon Davies took gold in the 50m freestyle in the 10 years age group; she also won the 50m butterfly with a new PB.

Atlanta Turner and Megan Perry gained PBs in the freestyle, breaststroke and 100m IM.

Kayleigh Thomson managed PBs in the backstroke, butterfly and 100m IM Logan Jamieson received a speeding ticket in his freestyle, taking three seconds from his time, but won gold in the 100m IM, producing a PB in this and the breaststroke event.

In the 11-12 age group Natasha Wishart took ten seconds from her time in the freestyle, receiving a speeding ticket. She took silver in the butterfly with in a new PB. Natasha also gained PBs in backstroke and IM.

Gregor Moore took nine seconds from his time in the freestyle to receive Delting’s final speeding ticket. He also achieve PBs in the backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.

Brandon Ratter won the bronze medal in the butterfly and a PB, taking 26 seconds from his time. He also did a PB in the backstroke Imogen Raikes won the silver medal in the freestyle with a new PB and also did PBs in the IM and butterfly.

The Delting swimmers said they would like to thank Appliance Rescue for their support.

South Mainland

In the boys’ under-10 events Edward Oldbury had a speeding ticket in the 50m freestyle (39.62 seconds), followed by a gold medal in the 50m backstroke, a bronze in the 50m butterfly and a PB in the 100m IM.

Christopher Byrne-McCombie took silver in the 50m butterfly (54.01) and had PBs in the 100m IM and 50m breaststroke.

Seumas MacKay and Lewis Tait had PBs in the 50m backstroke and breaststroke while in the 50m freestyle Seumas again achieved a PB (45.62).

All the boys won silver in the freestyle relay.

In the girls’ under-10 events Rachel Keay take silver in the 50m freestyle and also had PBs in the 100m IM and 50m breast­stroke.

In the first event of the 11-12 group, 100m backstroke, Morven Davies came fourth and Harriet Bell reduced her PB. Both swam well in the 100m freestyle to get new PBs, with Morven getting a speeding ticket for her efforts (1.22.60). Harriet achieved sixth in 100m breaststroke and another PB in the 100m IM.

A spokesman said the South Mainland ASC would like to thank NorthLink Ferries and Mainlands for their support.

Lerwick Amateur Swimming Club

Anne and Emmie Hutchison, Levi Laurenson and Page Buggy competed in the 10 years group.

In the 50m freestyle Page was third in a new PB, Levi was the second fastest and Anne led with seven seconds from her entry time. Both Anne and Emmie were awarded certificates.

Anne took the gold in the 50m backstroke, Page beat her entry time and Levi equalled hers.

Kelsey Blades, 13, had a PB in her age group for the 100m IM.

There were improvements to time in the 50m butterfly for Anne and Emmie.

In the afternoon session Anne took gold in the IM and Emmie took the Bronze.

Kelsey was 6th in the 100m butterfly. In the 50 m breastroke Anne won first place and Emmie took bronze.

Kelsey won her heat and was fourth in the 100m freestyle.

The 50m freestyle relay was the final pacey event, bringing Page, Anne, Levi and Emmie gold medals.
