Comedy classes

Glasgow-born and Shetland-based stand- up comedian, musician and actor Sandy Nelson is hosting another series of comedy writing and performing night-classes.

The six-week course, organised in conjunction with Adult Learning and Shetland Arts as part of their comedy development initiative, began yesterday in Islesburgh Community Centre.

Mr Nelson said: “Last year’s course was very successful. We had a hard-working, diverse group who really got into the course and performed a great graduation show to a sell out crowd. I’m confident that Shetland has the juice to do that again. I’m looking forward to it.”

Mr Nelson began his comedy career in 1997 and has since been a regular performer around the UK stand-up circuit, making his solo Edinburgh Fringe debut in 2002. He has appeared on TV shows including Rab C Nesbitt, The Book Group and Still Game in which he plays Chris the Postie, and films including Braveheart in which he played John Wallace.

He also hosted the Stand Up-Helly-A’ comedy event at the Garrison Theatre earlier this year.
