Airlifted from long line boat

A Norwegian fisherman had to be airlifted to hospital early on Tuesday morning after a fishing hook caught him near the eye.

The skipper of Norwegian long liner Sjorvaer, which was nearly 60 miles to the west of Sumburgh near the Clair oil field at the time, called Shetland Coastguard at 6.40am and a rescue helicopter was dispatched.

He was flown to Tingwall airstrip before being transferred by a waiting ambulance to the Gilbert Bain Hospital just before 8.30am.
