Questionnaire will gauge public interest in hospice proposal

A new voluntary organisation dedicated to setting up a hospice in Shetland is calling for feedback from the public.

A short questionnaire has been prepared by The Shetland Hospice Group to gauge the level of support within the isles. The survey is expected to appear in shops and post offices in the near future.

Members of Lerwick Community Council will be asked to give feedback when they meet at the Town Hall on Monday evening.

In a letter to the community council, joint secretary Maggie Gemmill said the group hoped to establish an “across the board view” as part of its information-gathering process.

The idea for a hospice came earlier this year from Lerwick woman Janet Manson, who was concerned a lack of hospice care in the isles could put people at a severe disadvantage compared with communities on the mainland.
