Busy weekend for police with drink-related incidents

Shetland police dealt with several drink-related incidents over the weekend, including some noisy parties in Lerwick between Friday and Sunday, one of them resulting in musical equipment being seized and a person charged.

A large quantity of alcohol was taken from youths and destroyed in Scalloway on Friday. Police said they would like to remind parents and shopkeepers of the consequences of supplying drink to under-age youths.

A 20-year-old man was issued with a fixed penalty after being caught drinking alcohol in Lerwick’s town centre on Saturday. Police said anyone who failed to adhere to the alcohol by-law would face being issued with a £40 fixed penalty.

A man was arrested for drink driving in Lerwick on Saturday after his vehicle was seen being driven in an erratic manner. A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.

A 46-year-old man was arrested following a disturbance in a house at Gilbertson Road, Lerwick, on Saturday. A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.
