Dead man named by police after accident at Unst mussel factory

The man who died following a serious accident at the Baltasound Mussel Factory at Ordale, Unst, has been named as Geoffrey Davies.

The accident happened at about 9.20am on Saturday when Mr Davies, 58, a driver who was employed by Robert Henderson’s company, was delivering a forklift truck.

Emergency services attended at the scene following the report of the accident and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Fire crews used an airbag to release the man, who they say had been trapped under the forklift.

It is understood that Mr Davies recently moved to Unst with his family.

Police and the Health & Safety Executive are investigating the matter, and a report is to be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in Lerwick.

Police said there were no apparent suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.
