Fair Isle book could be a hit for the Hamefarers
Fair Isle Through the Seasons by Malachy Tallack and Roger Riddington. Published by ZE Press at £15.
Published to coincide with the opening of the new bird observatory Fair Isle Through the Seasons, written by former residents Tallack and Riddington and printed in Cornwall, takes a photographic wander through a year in Fair Isle.
The spectacular images are the work of Dave Wheeler, Mark Breaks, Deryk Shaw, Rebecca Nason and David Gifford and there is a multitude of photos which complement each season, showing every facet of island life, from past and present. The landscape and wildlife photography is particularly stunning Complementing the images the book also contains a brief history of Fair Isle’s community as well as information on island ornithology and the observatory, landmarks, such as sheep rock, crofting past and present and culture and traditions, such as guizing.
Fair Isle Through the Seasons is an ideal coffee table book and would make a lovely gift purchase – I would think a fair few Hamefarers will be taking copies away with them.
