Body found by boat searching for missing Cunningsburgh fisherman

A body was found in the sea east of Shetland yesterday afternoon by a boat searching for missing Cunningsburgh shell fisherman Neil Smith.

Mr Smith, 54, is believed to have been lost overboard while prawn fishing with his boat Breadwinner last Thursday. The vessel was later discovered partially sunk at Grif Skerry off Whalsay on Friday but despite a search by emergency services and the fishing community no trace could be found of the missing man.

According to a brief police statement received yesterday formal identification of the body was still to take place.
