Thumbs up for credit union
I was in Shetland recently and was delighted to read that the Shetland Credit Union will be opening in April. I believe that it will have a positive impact on the community and I hope it will be a success.
At the moment the government is deciding the future of Northern Rock. I very much hope that Alistair Carmichael will be able to see for himself the positive impact that credit unions and mutual societies have, given that there is a credit union in Orkney too, and so I would urge him and the government to give mutualisation a fair hearing.
At a time when it is said that there is a general disinterest in politics it was great to see so many people protesting against the Viking Energy development. I still support it and hope the two sides can work out their differences, because Shetland can lead the UK in the field of renewable energy.
I believe that however it turns out the option of turning any project including Viking into some form of co-operative should seriously be considered
