Woman, 21, in court after heroin worth £21,000 seized
A 21-year-old woman from Liverpool appeared from custody at Lerwick Sheriff Court in connection with alleged drugs offences.
Virginia Creggy, whose address was given simply as Liverpool, appeared in private on petition. She made no plea or declaration, was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.
Police arrested a woman yesterday who had travelled to Shetland from Liverpool with £21,000-worth of heroin.
It is the third time in just over a month that a woman has been found in possession of a large quantity of the class A drug. In late February another Liverpool woman and a Lerwick woman were caught within days of each other with £8,000-worth and £12,000-worth of the drug respectively.
Detective Constable Martin Murphy said: “This is the third significant heroin seizure in Shetland over the past few weeks. We are determined to stop those carrying, supplying and organising the distribution of such drugs to Shetland. Those involved in such illegal activity face arrest and prosecution.
“I would ask anyone with information on drugs misuse in Shetland to contact us and help us prevent the abuse of controlled drugs in our community.”
