Andrea Strachan won the bronze medal in the 50 metre breaststroke at the British Gas Amateur Swimming Association National championships being held at the Pond Forge leisure centre in Sheffield yesterday.

Andrea started the day in fine form qualifying for the finals as the seventh fastest qualifier from the morning heats. She knew she would have to be at her best last night’s final, and she certainly did not disappoint. With only six tenths of a second seperating the top swimmers, Andrea’s time of 32.59 seconds smashed her previous best.

Today it is Amy Harper’s turn. She will go in the heats of the 100 metre freestyle and on Thursday morning both girls will be in action, Andrea in the 100 metre breaststroke and Amy in the 50 metre freestyle.
