North Sea Triangle Challenge race called off due to storms at Dutch port

The yachts participating in the North Sea Triangle Challenge are stormbound at Den Helder in Holland and the organisers have decided they will not be sailing to Lerwick this year.

The event, with 39 entrants, should have started from Den Helder at 10am on Saturday and were expected to arrive in Lerwick from tomorrow. Instead they look forward to 2013, the next biennial challenge.

Meanwhile, the 1,000 Mile Double-handed yacht race is nearing the completion of the first leg, with the first arrivals crossing the finishing line at Bergen. These yachts will depart for Lerwick on Wednesday with the others competing in the annual Bergen-Shetland Race.
