Apologise or resign (Les Lowes)
It is ironical indeed that Jonathan Wills should choose a Nazi salute as a means of protesting alleged abuse of the democratic process, considering the millions who died in order to rid the world of Nazi tyranny and oppression and to guarantee the right of free speech. Not an appropriate or sensible thing to do though.
Who it was that leaked information about this incident to his friends in the Sun, matters not.
Jonathan is a great propagandist, so breathing in the heady oxygen of publicity as any Dr Goebwills would, he grasped this lucky opportunity to reveal to readers of the Shetland News that our councillors voted in private to enter the consultant property market.
This is also distasteful, but was his “ironical” gesture really necessary?
He ought to apologise to the entire Shetland electorate for such crass and insulting behaviour, or be prepared to resign his seat on our council.

I dont think for a minute that the salute was a serious jesture, its just something that hundreds have done already when faced with someone a little bit too bossy.
I dont think it was an appropriate place to have carried out the event, and I dont know much about either councillor, but I’m sure there are a lot more serious issues for the council and the great people of Shetland to worry about?
Is it really necessary to apologise or resign?
I’m sure the convenor is still in office?

Mr Lowes. You know as well as me his unfortunate gesture was made in a closed, private session of the council. Only those present could have been offended.
The truly offensive person was whoever leaked the story to The Sun and thus caused offence to the general public.
Please note whoever leaked the story did not have the balls to lend his name to the leak. Typical of the gutless fascist-type behaviour in the council chamber, by those, who hold private sessions to keep their dictates secret?
No democracy here, just a group of provincial fools lacking the courage to make their own, narrow and self serving views public.
Only a sanctimonious busybody would regard this private gesture as more than a defiant protest with perhaps more than a slight element of truth in it.
