Police seize drink from youngsters heading to dances

Alcohol was seized from under-age people on 25 occasions over the weekend, the vast majority being youngsters on their way to dances across the isles.

Police said the drink was discovered during “proactive patrols” of the events. A small number of the young people were found to be so drunk so as to be incapable of looking after themselves, placing them at significant risk.

The incidents follow seven seizures the previous weekend, again from young people going to licensed events across the isles.

A spokesman said the police would like to highlight the matter to parents and carers and ask that they take all reasonable steps to ensure the safety and wellbeing of their children when they are going to dances and events.
