A Shetlander has been appointed as the next manager of Sullom Voe, 30 years after beginning his BP career at the terminal.

Arthur Spence from Lerwick is currently BP’s Caspian Exports System manager in Azerbaijan. He is due to take over as area operations manager at the Shetland oil terminal from another Shetlander, Lindsay Boswell, on 2nd January.

Since joining BP in May 1981, Mr Spence has worked in various parts of the world including Texas and London. He started at Sullom Voe where he held a number of posts, including delivery manager and commercial manager.

A son of Violet and the late Dan Spence, Mr Spence grew up in Lerwick and went to the Anderson High School. He is a highly qualified chartered engineer and business graduate.

Various members of his family still live in Shetland and he will be joined in the islands by his wife Joanne, two of their daughters and grandchildren.
