Four appear from custody on weekend assault charges

Three men and a woman appeared from custody at Lerwick Sheriff Court today in connection with separate assault charges, each alleged to have taken place over the weekend.

Christopher Duncan, 37, of Ollaberry, is accused of assaulting a woman by repeatedly kicking her on a road near Heylor, Hillswick on Sunday. He has also been charged with behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting and swearing. His case was continued without plea until 13th June and he was granted bail.

Jonathan Sinclair, 17, of Houster, Tingwall, also made no plea and was bailed to reappear on 13th June. He is accused of assaulting a man at Trance Closs, Lerwick, on Sunday by presenting a broken bottle at him. Mr Sinclair has also been charged with shouting, swearing, making threats and committing a breach of the peace.

Kelly Smith, 19, of Hillend, Yell, was accused of assaulting a man by repeaedly punching him and scratching him at the Thule Bar in Lerwick on Friday. Her case has been continued without plea until 13th June and she has been granted bail in the meantime.

Alistair Kirk, 49, of West Sandwick, Yell, was charged with assaulting a woman in Camb and presenting a knife at her on Saturday. Again, he was granted bail and his case was continued without plea until 13th June.
