Interim director of community care appointed by SIC

The SIC has appointed Sally Shaw, executive manager of adult services, as interim director of community care.

She will replace Christine Ferguson who is about to take up her new role as director of corporate services.

Mrs Shaw joined the council in July last year and has over 20 years’ experience across the care sector. Previously she worked with MacIntyre, a national charity supporting young people and adults with learning disabilities, and as a manager with Warrington Borough Council.

She said: “I am absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to take the interim post as director of community care. Excellent foundations have been laid in all aspects of the community care programme, and I feel that I can continue the good work with colleagues across the council, NHS and third sector. It will be a very challenging role, but one that I am enthusiastic about.”

Chairman of the council’s social services committee Cecil Smith said: “I am pleased that we’ve been able to appoint Mrs Shaw to this key position in the council. Sally brings a wealth of experience to the role, and I’m looking forward to working with her and her team to deliver quality community care services throughout Shetland.”
