Man on assault charges will appear on trial

A man charged with a string of offences will face trial at Lerwick Sheriff Court next month.

Trevor Couper, 19, currently on remand, appeared from custody at the court today. He is charged with playing his part, with another, in two alleged assaults in Sandside, Firth, in May, causing injury. The alleged assaults were committed while Couper was on bail.

Couper is accused of two other assault to injury charges at Lerwick’s Garthspool on 10th March, as well as causing alarm and striking a door in the town’s Ladies Drive, shouting at a resident. He is also facing a charge of threatening violence to a police officer at Lerwick Police Station.

Couper pleaded not guilty to some of the offences at court today but his pleas were not accepted. He was remanded in custody with an intermediate diet set for Thursday and a trial date on 4th September.
