We need the meals (Eileen Petrie and Margaret Batty)

This is an appeal to all councillors when you meet at the full council meeting to discuss the decisions made at the last social services committee regarding the future of the Freefield Centre.

We are asking you to reconsider leaving the voluntary sector to run the lunch club which is vital to many of us.

We really need the meals (and company) the lunch club offers. Otherwise we and several others would need meals-on-wheels or a carer coming in.

The volunteers, though no doubt willing, will be hard put to provide this service. There is no working kitchen to make meals and where is that and other finance needed coming from? We are not convinced this plan is going to work and if it doesn’t we will have lost a valuable and much-needed resource. This might end up costing the council more than at present.

So please think very carefully before you make a final decision. And also consider all the necessities that have to be provided before giving more money to luxuries such as Mareel.
