Alert issued about scam from company claiming to be CAB

Shetland’s Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) is warning its clients to be aware of a phone scam.

A company pretending to be CAB is calling up individuals and advising them that action is being taken against them for debt, and offering to help them. The telephone number the company calls from is 01806 722017, designed to dupe people into thinking it is a local number.

Local CAB manager Sylvia Jamieson said: “Although we do assist people who are struggling with debt, including legal action against them, no Citizens Advice Bureau would cold call somebody in this manner. If you are concerned about a call you have received please telephone us on (01595) 694696, or email [email protected]”.
