The main road south of Cunningsburgh has been closed this afternoon because of a serious road accident.

The incident, understood to involve two vehicles, a car and a lorry, occurred at about 3.30pm on the stretch of road commonly referred to as the “cliffs of Cunningsburgh”.

Police said the situation was “still ongoing” at 4pm. Two fire appliances from Lerwick and one from Sandwick had attended along with an ambulance. Fire crews cut the roof from the car to release the injured driver, it is understood.
