Troppo Funk set to bow out with final date at Legion
One of Shetland’s most innovative bands will be staging their final performance this weekend, with a gig in the Lerwick Legion on Friday.
Troppo Funk play highly danceable funk and jazz, and the band is made up of five of the islands’ best young musicians, all of whom are also well known from other acts.
Drummer Lewis Murray, saxophonist Norman Willmore, bassist Hayden Hook, pianist Max Tyler and guitarist Joe Watt have featured in bands such as the Wind Up Projectiles, North Country Fair, Maskarade, First Foot Soldiers, Muddy Bay and The Deep Sea Rollers, Shetland Community Orchestra, The National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland, and many others. They are a talented bunch indeed, and all of the musicians have either completed or are due to begin the HNC in music at Mareel.
Two band members, Max Tyler and Hayden Hook, are leaving Shetland soon – Max to start a degree in music and physics at Edinburgh University and Hayden to study jazz bass at the Conservatorium Van Amsterdam – so Troppo Funk have been forced to call it a day.
