Power lost at almost 400 homes

Close to 400 homes were thrown into darkness on Monday after an electrical fault caused power cuts in Lerwick, Gulberwick and Quarff.Reports were made to Scottish and Southern Energy after the first of the problems were detected at around 5.30am. Engineers worked to restore power throughout the day, with the last fault being repaired shortly after midnight.

A spokesman for SSE said the outage related to a fault on a piece of insulation to a transformer, adding 370 properties were affected.

“There was a small ingress in this piece of insulation, so water got in and it started messing up the system,” he said. “We would like to offer our apologies for any inconvenience this might have caused.”
