Ferries delayed by ‘Gonzalo gales’

The tail-end of hurricane Gonzalo is disrupting sea travel to and from Shetland.

Tonight’s southbound passenger ferry sailing to Aberdeen will only leave Lerwick at around 2am, not 7pm as scheduled. This is due to “forecast adverse weather conditions”.

However passengers on the Hjaltland will still have to check in as usual. Check-in will open at 5pm, and final check-in is at 6.30pm.

The ferry is expected to arrive in Aberdeen in the late afternoon on Wednesday.

The northbound sailing of the Hrossey will also be delayed. Although she will leave Aberdeen as scheduled at 5pm, arrival in Kirkwall will be one or two hours late.

Depending on sea state and swell, arrival into Lerwick is expected to be mid-morning.
