Pedestrian injured in Market Cross road accident

An elderly pedestrian was injured and taken to hospital following an accident in Lerwick on Monday evening.

The road traffic collision occurred at about 5.30pm near the Market Cross. The pedestrian suffered injuries to his pelvic area and was taken to Gilbert Bain Hospital for treatment.

Anyone who saw the incident or has any relevant information should contact Police Scotland at Lerwick by phoning 101.

    It was only a matter of time before something like this was going to happen, it is incredible the amount of illegal parking that goes on around the cross area. It is a pedestrian zone but yet cars and vans are parked around there all day every day! There needs to be policing of the area and action taken before there is a fatality!

    Police are asking for witnesses to contact 101, why don’t the police check the cameras? But that would mean them doing a wee bit work tut tut.
