Technical problem hits Mareel’s smaller cinema

Mareel will be unable to show films in the cinema’s smaller Screen 2 over the coming days, owing to a fault with the projector.

The technical problem arose on Tuesday and saw a number of films cancelled, up until Thursday, with the possibility of further cancellations to come.

According to Shetland Arts a replacement part to fix the faulty technology has been ordered and should be in Shetland in around a week.

Customers who have tickets to any of the affected showings in the 37-seat Screen 2 will be contacted by the venue’s staff in order to arrange a refund.

Alternatively people can contact Mareel themselves, either by visiting in person or over the phone.

Is there a reason these films could not be shown in the larger cinema? And would laying in a spare parts stock for the projectors be a prudent investment?
