Fisherman who fell from vessel dies in hospital

A fisherman who fell overboard from his fishing boat yesterday morning has died in hospital.

The Marine Accident Investigation Branch has deployed a team to carry out an investigation.

The alarm was raised yesterday morning when the man fell from the Kings Challenger.

Crew on the Ballantrae-registered scalloper managed to get the man back into the boat before he was airlifted to hospital by the Sumburgh-based search and rescue helicopter.

However, it emerged this morning that the man has since died.

Police in Inverness said next of kin from outside the Highlands area were being informed.

The MAIB said in a statement that a team had been deployed to conduct an investigation.

The incident took place approximately 17 miles south west of Scalloway.
