Dog rescued from Ness of Sound after cliff fall

A dog which went over cliffs at the Ness of Sound has been rescued safe and sound.

Jack the 11-year-old Staffie was rescued by coastguard teams from Lerwick and Sumburgh, and the RNLI Lerwick lifeboat, on Friday evening.

On arrival, rescue teams found Jack down a small rocky inlet. Rescuers donned drysuits and were able to wade into the inlet with the lifeboat providing safety cover.

Jack was recovered into an animal rescue bag and reunited with his very relieved owner.

A coastguard spokesman said they first received the call just before 6pm, with the rescue taking around an hour to complete.
