Youth workers on street patrols following Harrison Square assault
Youth workers will be patrolling the streets following an assault which led to five young people being charged.
The SIC confirmed today (Friday) that members of its team would be deployed as “detached youth workers” over the next few weeks.
“Our hope is to build relationships with young people where they are at and have conversations with them and the wider community,” it said.
“We continued to work positively with colleagues in Police Scotland, social work and schools.”
The announcement follows an assault in Harrison Square last Friday night, which was captured on video.
Police later confirmed five youths had been charged and would be reported to the Youth Justice Management Department.
The SIC has also issued an appeal for “enthusiastic individuals” to join its relief youth work team to enable the service to continue providing spaces for young people across the community.
