Nesting school meets with inspectors’ favour
Nesting Primary School has been given a favourable report by government inspectors, although more work is needed to ensure the pace of learning can meet the needs of all pupils.
Inspectors visited the school in March and found children were proud of their school and shared their views confidently.
They found staff provided a wide range of opportunities for youngsters and that the school as a whole maintained strong links with parents and the wider community.
They also said the school had been successful in developing children’s knowledge and understanding of local culture.
Boasting a welcoming outlook and a positive atmosphere, the school provides a range of activities such as cookery, woodwork and sports for its pupils.
Children have positive attitudes towards the environment, having achieved two Eco-Schools Scotland green flags.
The report also found youngsters were skilled at singing in Shetland dialect and playing musical instruments.
However, more needs to be done to ensure the level of challenge is sufficient for all youngsters.
Staff will also continue in a drive to evaluate ways of helping improve children’s experiences and attainment.
The inspection team said they were confident the changes could be implemented without any need for a follow-up inspection..
SIC head of schools Helen Budge said the schools service would work with Nesting Primary to ensure the points for action are addressed.
