Watch out! The Google street car is in Shetland
It has caused controversy around the country, with the residents of one village in the Home Counties forming a human chain to prevent it getting down their street because they believed its presence was an invasion of their privacy.
Now the Google Street View car, one a of a fleet with 360-degree cameras placed on top that is travelling the country to compile an image bank for the online search engine’s Street View service, has arrived in Shetland.
The car was spotted by Shetland Times photographer Dave Donaldson in Quarff on Friday afternoon.
Alas, Dave’s friendly approach to the driver to ask how many places in the isles were being photographed was met with a rebuff. “I am doing no interviews,” he said before getting in his car and driving off. We will just have to log on in a few days’ time to find out.
