Hillhead fashion boutique to close and go full-time online

The Cubby Hol fashion boutique at the Hillhead will be closing down at the end of the month, just a year after it opened.

However the company, which stocked a range of Shetland knitwear designs from owner Emma Blain’s textile firm Aamos Designs, as well as fashion and cosmetics from outside the isle, will continue to exist and trade online at www.cubby-hol.com.

Miss Blain is opening a small studio and show room in Scalloway, which will showcase Aamos Designs’ products.

She explained that it was the success of Aamos Designs that had prompted the move: “The textile business is really taking off; we’ve exhibited in Country Living [magazine] and have been given the opportunity to get involved with the Gifted exhibition in Edinburgh.

“Because I’m also involved in Mirrie Dancers in my spare time I had a lot on my plate, and because Aamos Designs is succeeding I decided to commit to it 100 per cent.”

She also said the opportunity to move from the existing Cunningsburgh studio to a warmer and more economical studio in Scalloway helped decide the issue.

Miss Blain said that although the Cubby Hol was “off the beaten track” the company has enjoyed support and good sales from a loyal customer base.

An open night for the new studio will be organised in September, details of which will be advertised soon.
