Lerwick and Ness men appear in court together on drugs charges

Two men stood together in the dock at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Monday charged with contravening the misuse of drugs act.

David Inkster, 35, of Nordavatn, Lerwick, was released on bail while Andrew McAllister, 46, of Hardbrakes Place in Dunrossness, was remanded in custody.

Both men appeared in private before Sheriff Graeme Napier, made no plea or declaration, and were committed for further examination. Their appearance followed the seizure of heroin and Valium by police last week.

Chief inspector Dave Bushell said Shetland police would “relentlessly pursue” those involved in drug-related activity using the successful, proactive intelligence-led approach.

He said: “We continue to receive assistance from the public in relation to drug dealing and drug misuse. The people of Shetland clearly share our desire to stop drugs entering our communities.

“We would encourage people to continue to contact police or Crimestoppers anonymously if they have information regarding drug misuse or drug dealing.”
