Mobile generators brought in after power cut hits homes at the Ness
Around 275 properties in the Sumburgh area suffered a power cut of up to nine hours during Monday night when a fault developed in an underground cable.
A spokesman for Scottish and Southern Energy said that mobile generators were brought in so that customers could be re-connected as soon as possible. Power was lost around 8pm and was restored to all properties, which were mainly domestic, by 5am on Tuesday.
The spokesman said that although the section of cable where the fault had developed could be identified, actually pinpointing the fault would be “labour intensive” and involve digging down. Repairs would be carried out over the next few days, he said. Sumburgh Airport was not affected.
