Saracens and Ness players on target in indoor hockey matches

Saracens picked up 5-1 win over Ness and a 3-3 draw with Reckless in this week’s indoor hockey league matches, while Ness enjoyed an emphatic victory over Crusaders.

Reckless 3, Saracens 3
Saracens started strongly and were two goals ahead after the first half through from Ian Devonald.

After some good team tactics at half time Reckless shored up their defence and started some good forward drives. Mel Inkster sent a lovely pass into the D and it was well finished by Neil Duncan.

Duncan carried on his sharp shooting, scoring an equaliser from a searching pass from Louise Fraser, but Saracens rallied and pushed ahead through great play by Craig Sneddon.

An exciting finish saw captain Georgia Laurenson level the match after a short corner by John Magnus Scollay.
Players of the match were Zoe Irvine for Saracens and for guest Neil Duncan for Reckless.

Ness 9, Crusaders 1
Crusaders took to the game with a player short and Ness made sure to use that to their advantage.

Scott Anderson between the Crusaders sticks was kept on his toes all night with constant attempts at goal from the Ness front line of Jillian Copland, Kerry Burgess and Maggie Kay Irvine.

Kelly Thompson in Crusaders defence worked tirelessly to keep Ness out of the circle, allowing time for Paul Grant and Lowrie Simpson to work back.

Stacy Gardiner of Crusaders linked up well with her midfield and kept Ness keeper Neal Pearson on his toes on numerous occasions. Solid defending and communication from the Ness defence of Andrea Tait and Janetta Williamson made sure any attacking runs were thwarted early on.

A fast-paced game was played in a lightsome manner and saw Ness walk away with a victory. Scorers were Jillian Copland (5), Kerri Redfern (3) and Kerry Burgess 1 while Paul Grant was on target for Crusaders with a well-deserved consolation goal.

Saracens 5, Ness 1
Ness came flying out the blocks, putting the Saracens defence under pressure from the off. They got a well-deserved goal after good work found Maggie Kay free at the back post to slot home.

The goal gave Saracens the kick start they required and they replied instantly after good work between Donald Wilmore and Zoe Irvine from a short corner which resulted in the latter placing the ball home tidily.

After the break there was good counter-attacking hockey and numerous short corners for Ness but they were unable to capitalise. They were made to rue their missed chances when Craig Sneddon found his shooting shoes and scored four goals without reply.

Maggie Kay (Ness) and Zoe Irvine (Saracens) got the prestigious player-of-the-match awards for their clubs.
