Three reported after two disturbances in Brae at the weekend
There were two disturbances in Brae during the early hours of Saturday morning, leading to three men being reported by police.
Two men were involved in “causing a nuisance of themselves” by fighting in the street, according to the police. They are to be reported for a breach of the peace. The second disturbance, which took place within a home in Brae, led to a man being arrested and he is to be reported to the procurator fiscal.
There were also a number of other minor crimes committed over the weekend. Between 10pm and 10.45pm on Friday evening money was stolen from a locker area at Clickimin Leisure Complex. There were a number of people using the centre at the time and police are appealing for witnesses.
Early on Saturday a man was arrested for allegedly causing damage to a house in Ladies Drive, Lerwick, and causing alarm to the residents of the same house. He is to be reported to the procurator fiscal.
On Saturday afternoon a man was detained on the Esplanade. Police said he was found to be in possession of a personal quantity of cannabis. A report is to be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
A man was arrested on Commercial Street for “disruptive behaviour” in the early hours of Sunday. The incident, in which police said alcohol was a “significant factor”, prompted officers to issue a reminder to members of the public to “drink responsibly over the upcoming festive season”. The man is to be reported to the procurator fiscal.
Police enquiries are also ongoing after a man was assaulted within a Lerwick nightclub in the early hours of Sunday. The victim’s injuries were described as “relatively minor”.
An isles resident received a bogus call from a person claiming to be from British Telecom on Friday. During the conversation the caller attempted to elicit bank details from the person. Police are reminding everyone to be on their guard for such calls and if there is any doubt about whether the caller is genuine, no personal or bank details should be given out over the phone or via the internet.
Finally, police are investigating a reported theft in the Haldane Burgess Crescent area of Lerwick which occurred at around 4.10pm on Thursday. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the police station on (01595) 692110.
