Strong win for high school in first round of Scottish netball competition
AHS 64, St Margaret’s 15
Anderson High School had a comfortable win over St Margaret’s School for Girls from Aberdeen in the first round of the Scottish schools netball competition.
The atmosphere in the school games hall on Saturday was tense as the two teams faced each other for the first time.
St Margaret’s had initial possession of the ball as the teams settled into the game but it soon got to the hands of AHS goal shooter Chloe Miller, who found the back of the net first.
AHS quickly achieved a four-point lead before St Margaret’s got their first point following some good movement in the circle from the goal attack. However, this just seemed to spur the AHS girls on, leaving them with an impressive 20-4 lead after the first quarter.
The second quarter saw some changes in the St Margaret’s line up. Their goal defence was strong, making some good interceptions, but the ball just wasn’t reaching the net for them. With solid passing through the centre third to the shooters, AHS left for half time with a comfortable 29-point lead.
AHS continued to dominate play in the second half. Refusing to give up, St Margaret’s also became stronger with the centre working well to get the ball into their circle. However, try as they might, they could not get it through the hoop and, with strong defending and good rebounds from GD Inga Woods, the game ended with a score of 64-15 to AHS.
