Members of the Singing Kettle, a major UK box office draw in children’s entertainment, have been booked by the Shetland Folk Festival to take part in the 30th anniversary celebrations.

With 100 days to go until the festival commences, the Singing Kettle join the line-up of 14 visiting acts announced to date. Booked for a one-off teatime performance at the Clickimin Centre, they will take to the stage on the opening day, Thursday 29th April, 30 years after two of their number entertained Shetland audiences at the inaugural festival.

BAFTA award winners and with MBEs for services to children’s entertainment, the Singing Kettle have turned children’s theatre into an art form and their unique performances have become the benchmark for fellow professionals everywhere.

They have introduced live theatre for the first time to many thousands of families, and audiences worldwide are hooked on their madcap musical adventures flavoured with cheeky Scottish humour.

Mhari Pottinger, one of the event organisers, said: “It is absolutely fantastic to invite the Singing Kettle back to Shetland for what is a long overdue return visit. It’s exciting to offer this extra concert as part of our 30th festival to help ensure that the younger members of our Shetland community are kept fully entertained. Mind you, no matter your age, the concert style performance from Cilla, Artie, Gary and Kevin is guaranteed to have the whole family dancing, laughing and singing the songs together! The interaction is contagious.”

Bursting with superb sing-along songs and loads of audience participation, the Singing Kettle always provides a fun-filled, action packed show – which is expected to sell out quickly.

Tickets for the performance are priced at £10 for all and will go on sale at 10am on Saturday 13th February, at the Shetland Folk Festival Offices at 5 Burns Lane, Lerwick.

Tickets for the other festival concerts will go on sale in the usual manner to advance festival members from mid-March and then to everyone else from 2nd April. Advance memberships are available for purchase from 22nd January until 29th February, by returning the form available for download at www.shetlandfolkfestival.com
